Dei Mori La Massa is an easy drive into the Tuscan countryside. Four of us spent a week at the villa this past May and in one word our vacation was – AMAZING! To start, Peter and Danny were the most enjoyable and attentive hosts possible. They immediately made us feel that we were part of their family. Although not expected, Peter went out of his way to personally show us local stores, restaurants, and other sites of interest.
The villa itself is so beautiful and relaxing that once settled in, you will not want to leave. The bedrooms and bathrooms are clean, fully furnished, well decorated, and very comfortable. We shared the eat-in kitchen and spacious living room. Outside tables and swimming pool provided spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
Our weather could not have been better – bright sunny warm days and moderately cool evenings. Late May is definitely an excellent time to visit this part of Italy.
We recommend a car, since Dei Mori La Massa is not readily accessible by public transportation. While on our trip, we used our car to visit Stia, Poppi, and Bibbiena. We also took the train from Bibbiena to Arezzo and spent about a half day walking around the old part of that town.
One of the highlights of our visit was a cooking class conducted by Danny’s mother Beppina. She brought everything she needed with her to our kitchen and proceeded to show us how to make pasta and gnocchi by hand. Meanwhile, Peter cooked up two incredible sauces using walnuts for the pasta and butter and sage for the gnocchi. After the class, we all ate lunch together – outside of course.
The end of our vacation came all too soon. If you ever get the chance to visit, you will not be disappointed with Dei Mori La Massa. The people, the villa, the local food/wine – all the best parts of visiting Italy are to be found right there!
